What is Vocabulary Stories?
Vocabulary Stories is an interactive learning app that teaches vocabulary through engaging stories and word games. Children learn new words in context with audio narration, word exercises, and progress tracking.
Word Tasks & Games
Word Tasks is the core 8-step learning journey: meaning, synonyms, antonyms, examples, story, recap, word sort, quiz.
Five word games add variety and draw from a wider word bank:
- Emoji Hopper - Match words to the emojis that capture them
- Word Search - Find hidden words in a puzzle grid
- Guess the Word - A daily Wordle-style word guessing game
- Word Chain - Connect words using shared letters
- Anagram - Rearrange letters to form words
Free & Paid Versions
Vocabulary Stories has a free version with full feature access. Paid versions unlock the full word bank and additional content, including tutor-approved and AI-generated stories plus personalised story generation. A 7-day trial is available before sign-up.
Daily Limit Warnings
The app displays warnings when you reach 80% and 90% of your daily limit. You'll see notifications within the word tasks and can always check your progress in the Progress section.
Parental Gate
The Parental Gate is a math challenge that protects sensitive areas like Settings and Account Management. Parents must solve a simple math problem to access these features, keeping children safe within the learning content.
Word of the Day
Each day, a new featured word appears on the Dashboard. Tap it to start a complete learning journey through the 8-step Word Tasks, including hearing the word in a story.
Child Safety
Yes, the app is designed for Kids Category compliance with parental controls, mandatory terms acceptance, and no tracking analytics. Parents maintain control over account settings through the Parental Gate.
Progress Tracking
The Progress section shows total words learned, daily progress, and completion statistics. You can see which words have been mastered and how much learning has been completed.
Subscription Management
Subscriptions are managed through your device's App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android). Go to your account settings in the respective store to modify or cancel your subscription. You can also restore previous purchases within the app.
How Vocabulary Stories Builds Vocabulary
Vocabulary Stories uses a three-step approach: learners encounter new words naturally within engaging stories, reinforce learning through the 8-step Word Tasks plus five word games, and track progress with daily insights and achievement badges. Contextual learning improves word retention by up to 3 times compared to rote memorisation.
Who It's For
Vocabulary Stories is built for students, language learners, parents, and tutors preparing for any major vocabulary-tested exam. All bundles are live today: 11+ (children aged 8–11), plus SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, and ACT (teens and adult learners). The library includes 500+ teacher-approved stories and 2,000+ AI-generated stories.
How Many Words Can I Learn?
The app features 2,000+ carefully curated exam-level words, with new content added weekly. Each word is taught through multiple touchpoints — story context, definitions, synonyms, antonyms, examples, and games. Learners typically pick up 10-15 new words per week with regular use.
Exam Preparation
Vocabulary Stories is built for any major vocabulary-tested exam — 11+, SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, and ACT. All exam-aligned word sets are live today. The 8-step Word Tasks cover the exact skills these exams assess: meaning, synonyms, antonyms, contextual usage, and recall.
When to Start 11+ Prep
We recommend starting 12-18 months before the exam, typically around age 9. However, children as young as 7 benefit from building a strong vocabulary foundation early. The app adapts to your child's pace, making it suitable for both early preparation and intensive revision closer to exam day.
Stories vs Traditional Word Lists
Traditional word lists rely on rote memorisation, which research shows has poor long-term retention. Vocabulary Stories teaches the same exam-level vocabulary through story context, which improves retention by up to 3 times. Learners also practise each word through synonyms, antonyms, and multiple game formats — building the flexible word knowledge that vocabulary-tested exams require.
